Open your eyes to nature

Open your eyes to nature

The water we drink. The food we eat. The houses we live in and the clothes we wear. The medicines that help us when we are sick. The adventures that let us find peace or stretch boundaries. Everything has its origin in nature. In the great mystery that we call Planet Earth.

As living beings, we are entirely in the hands of the planet’s generosity. In the beautiful cycle where each plant and each creature has its own special place. Not just during their lifetime but also after. It’s difficult not to feel reverence and respect for the grandeur of nature. In an almost unimaginable diversity, we can move from bustling rainforests to the most barren deserts. Down snowy mountain peaks to the breathtaking depths of sea. Through sparkling starry nights in the south to mythical northern lights above the Arctic Circle. Everything is just there for us to experience – and to live by. Yet we humans continue our predation on Earth’s resources, with a ruthless short-sightedness. The planet that we inherited, and that our children will inherit from us, is bleeding.

To turn the tide, we must open our eyes. See how global warming is slipping beyond our control. How the average temperature is rising rapidly; the last decade is the warmest ever measured on the globe. Understand that the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has risen to levels that have no equivalent, the amount of carbon dioxide has not been higher in the last two million years. See how we continue to cut down the rainforest. In just 100 years, half of all rainforest has disappeared. Realize that biodiversity is under serious threat. Three quarters of all species are in danger of extinction in the next few centuries. Wild vertebrates have declined by 60 percent and there are reports that nearly 15,000 medicinal plant species may be endangered. As if that were not enough, the sea level is rising rapidly and is 20–25 cm higher today than it was at the end of the 19th century.

Embrace the great mystery that we call Planet Earth

We need to realize that we are currently living as if we had 1.7 globes, and that those who use up the most, are us who have it best.

Insights like these can make anyone feel despair. But if we open our eyes, we can also see the opportunity to take action. According to WWF, a global transition to 100 percent renewable energy is possible by 2050, with the help of already available innovations. We can all contribute to reduced energy use and increased biodiversity by thinking about how we eat, live and travel. It’s just a matter of deciding.

Here at KnowledgeCotton Apparel, we have made our decision. Just as nature is present in every fiber of our garments, respect for the planet has been built into our company since the beginning. Our inspiration comes from Mother Earth, from all the experiences she so generously invites us to and the resources she allows us to borrow and refine. Nature also inspires us to make a difference where we can. We want to show the world that clothes can be ecologically responsible. This is why we take a stand. To us, it’s about balance – about being in harmony with nature’s elements.

Let us all ask ourselves – how can we give back to nature so that she regains her balance and harmony?

Thank you for being a part of our journey.
